Celebration Days

Celebration Days are central to the museum’s commitment to a future in which every individual can see themselves in STEM. This annual event series shines a spotlight on the experiences and contributions of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and women in STEM.

These events bring together voices from across Twin Cities metro area community organizations, businesses, educational institutions, and policy circles to celebrate and elevate their impact.

Science Celebration

Science Celebration is the Science Museum of Minnesota’s annual principal fundraising experience, generating crucial funding and support for the museum’s year-round STEM education work. This after-hours, adults-only night at the museum features food and beverage, behind-the-scenes experiences, scientific performances, and more.

Omnifest

Omnifest, the Science Museum of Minnesota’s annual giant screen movie festival, runs from Wednesday, Feb. 26, to Sunday, April 5, 2026. Omnifest is a beloved Science Museum tradition, highlighting four features running in a daily rotation on the Omnitheater’s 90-foot domed screen.

  • Few places on Earth can tell a story like the Omnitheater can. With its nine-story domed screen and state-of-the-art sound system, the theater puts viewers right at the heart of the action.
  • Omnitheater movies are the perfect way to learn something new. Spanning topics of natural history, space exploration, adventure, and environmental science, they’re the perfect primer on a variety of topics in an engrossing environment.
  • This year’s films:
    • Volcanoes: Fires of Creation
      Explorer Carsten Peter leads audiences across the globe to discover molten worlds and exploding craters in this adrenaline-filled, immersive experience that reveals the powerful forces shaping our planet.
    • Into America’s Wild
      Narrated by Morgan Freeman, Into America’s Wild takes you on a cross-country journey to some of the most beautiful but little-known landscapes of North America. From the wilds of Alaska and the lush coastline of Oregon to the ancient canyons of the Southwest and the rolling hills of the Appalachian Trail, this nonstop adventure via kayak, train, bike, hot air balloon and other thrilling vehicles  explores the transformational allure of wild places and the human connection we all share with the natural world.
    • Oceans: Our Blue Planet
      From BBC Earth and OceanX Media, Oceans: Our Blue Planet takes viewers on a global odyssey to discover the largest and least explored habitat on earth. New ocean science and technology has allowed us to go further into the unknown than ever thought possible. From the coastal shallows to deeper, more mysterious worlds, this film reveals the untold stories of the oceans’ most astonishing creatures.
    • Apollo 11
      Crafted from a trove of 65mm footage and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings, Apollo 11 takes viewers straight to the heart of NASA’s most celebrated mission — the one that first put men on the moon. Immersed in the perspectives of the astronauts, the team in Mission Control, and the millions of spectators on the ground, vividly experience those momentous days and hours in 1969 when humankind took one giant leap into the future.
