Coffee with a Curator

October 23 | 10:00 am 12:00 pm

A huipil from the Museum's Collections. Features red, purple and orange stripes and intricate floral, geometric embroidery around the top.

Join us for an intimate, behind-the-scenes morning at the museum.

See the museum in a whole new light. Peek into the museum’s hidden treasures, enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries, and embark on a rare visit to our active research labs and collections vault. The morning concludes with an interactive discussion with William D. Wells Chair of Science Dr. Ed Fleming, who will share updates on the museum’s work with Maya weavers and artisans in Chiapas, Mexico.

Through this longstanding partnership, museum archaeologists have built a world-class collection of contemporary Maya artifacts. With the help of Maya advisors, the team recently digitized the weavings and artifacts from the collection so they are accessible to Maya artisans and scholars.

A museum expert looking at textiles with a group in Chiapas.

Join us to see the collection in person and to hear more about the project.

Please note: This event is a limited-capacity engagement and not open to the general public. Invitations are available for museum donors and members only. Want to learn more? Contact [email protected]
