Deep in the Biology Lab, the Science Museum hosts a truly one-of-a-kind dining experience. Reservations are impossible to get, as we cater to a select audience of extremely discerning diners. The food is almost never fresh — but that’s our client’s preference.

Welcome to “À La Mort,” an extremely unique in-museum restaurant serving thousands of discerning eaters around the clock. Our talented chefs serve only the finest selection of dried meats, both domestic and internationally sourced. You would be forgiven for not having heard of our exclusive brasserie, as we only serve hide beetles (Dermestes maculatus).
Our award-winning chefs take the nourishment and enjoyment of our diners very seriously. Every meal is hand-selected from the Biology Collection freezers from ethically -sourced animals and prepared so our diners eat only the choicest cuts of muscle, tendons, and cartilage. Here you can see a meal of jerked opossum presented artfully for our discerning clients. This meal is certain to delight and satisfy our beloved beetles.

We fastidiously serve a variety of options to satisfy the ranging palates of our exclusive clientele. Our diners don’t shy away from meals of any size, whether it’s an hors d’oeuvre of songbird skulls or a full rack of wolf spareribs. The only limit to what our kitchen can cook up for them is the square footage of the dining area — in other words, the size of the terrarium!

One luxury our diners enjoy is having they have access to everything they need to live the full life of a gourmand, all within the comfort of À La Mort. Our diners can live their approximately four-to-six month lifespans in total comfort, and some may say, luxury. Whether you are a first-instar larva interested in an all-you-can-eat atmosphere, a pupa looking for a bit of a quiet vibe, or an imago looking to make a special connection over dinner, À La Mort is the right place for you… as long as you are Dermestes maculatus!
