Jonathan Last

Jonathan Last, an archaeologist from the University of Cambridge, specializes in the study of ceramics - artifacts of fired clay, at Çatalhöyük. Although ceramic artifacts at the site include things such as the clay balls and figurines, Jonathan focuses on the pottery vessels or fragments of them which archaeologists call "sherds" or "potsherds". While pottery is not as abundant as some other types of artifacts at Çatalhöyük, it provides a unique opportunity to study some of the very earliest pottery in the Middle East.
